We invite you to listen to a podcast about Constantin Brâncuși's extraordinary works in Târgu Jiu, Romania, which were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2024.

John Beauchamp and Dr Katarzyna Jagodzińska from Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Krakow, whose partner is the ICC, discuss Constantin Brâncuși's iconic sculpture complex in Târgu Jiu, Romania, in their podcast. The “Table of Silence”, “Gate of the Kiss” and “Endless Column”, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2024, also provide an opportunity to discuss the biography of one of the most important artists of the 20th century.

They ask the mayor of the city, Dr Adrian Tudor, about the uniqueness of these extraordinary works and how the inscription of the sculpture complex on the UNESCO World Heritage List has affected the city, the space and life of the community in Târgu Jiu, and their awareness of the work of the famous Romanian sculptor. The conversation with him is translated by Oana Șomănescu.

Podcast Brâncuși Listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site

We warmly encourage you to listen to the podcast, and then visit the MCK for the exhibition “Brâncuși. Sculpting with Light”. In addition to photographs of Brâncuși and works by contemporary artists referring to his work, you can also see photographs by one of Romania's most famous photographers, Ion Miclea. These are photographs of the sculpture complex in Târgu Jiu, the most valuable legacy that Constantin Brâncuși left to his homeland. The project was the fulfilment of the artist's great dream to erect a monument in his native region commemorating the events of World War I, which would also be a reflection on love, death and memory.

The exhibition is co-organized by the International Cultural Centre in Krakow and the Romanian Cultural Institute in Warsaw.

The event is organised as part of the Romania–Poland Cultural Season 2024–2025.
