From 4 until 11 September we celebrated the 370th anniversary of the creation of the Church of Peace in Świdnica. The events programme included concerts, meet the author sessions and guided tours of the church. The director of the International Cultural Centre in Krakow, Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, took part in the celebrations.

The ICC for years has closely cooperated with the Church of Peace. Last year on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the inscription of the church on the UNESCO World Heritage List, prof. Jacek Purchla delivered a lecture entitled “Extraordinary Universal Value”. In the 28th issue of Herito (2017) an in-depth interview was published – prof. Jacek Purchla and Łukasz Galused talked to bishop Waldemar Pytel. Since 1991 the bishop has been a parson in Świdnica. Thanks to his involvement, the church was restored to its former glory.

As the bishop pointed out in the interview: “Given the conditions in which the church was created – outside the town, constructed of non‑durable materials, meant to last 20 or 30 years – both the building and the community gathering in it proved to be the most permanent thing in this land marked with conflicts and discontinuities. A couple of years ago I was asked at the tax office for the date of the foundation of the parish, to which I truthfully stated: 1652. «You must be joking,» the clerk said, «we have only been here since the end of World War II!»” (J. Purchla, Ł. Galusek, W.Pytel, The Paradox of Continuity: The Church of Peace in Świdnica”, HERITO” 2017, no. 28, p. 27)
