Art: Artistic milieu of Wrocław in the1970s and 1980s

The Orange Alternative flourished against the background of Wrocław – the city whose artistic milieu in the times of the Polish People’s Republic was particularly vibrant. One of the most intriguing phenomena of the period was the “Foto-Medium-Art” Gallery established in 1977 by the artist Jerzy Olek. A number of initiatives and actions organised in the public space of the period originated there. The Gallery also claims a special place in developing contemporary art theory – photography and new media in particular. The meeting held at the ICC will offer an opportunity for Jerzy Olek, the Gallery’s creator and for Krzysztof Siatka, an art historian and a director of “Foto-Medium-Art” since it moved to Krakow in 2007, to talk about this unique place.
