In the film Returning, Joanna Helander travels around Poland and Germany, and struggling with the passage of time, tries to discover what happened to her Jewish relatives who went missing during the war. During these journeys, she maintains an uninterrupted, imaginary dialogue with his deceased father - Gerhard K. His voice leads her through contemporary Poland and through the apocalyptic world of all who directly or indirectly suffered during the Holocaust. The film's construction of this document is the interplay of image, original music, dialogue and poetic narrative.
