April 6, 2014, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Finissage of the exhibition Memory: Registers and Territories

On Sunday, April 6, we cordially invite everyone to the finissage of the exhibition Memory: Registers and Territories. Throughout the day, entry to the ICC Gallery will be free of charge, while at 11.00 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. Dr Monika Rydiger and Natalia Żak, the exhibition curators, will offer a guided tour of the exhibition. Also, two extra guided tours will be provided: in Polish (at 12.00 p.m.) and in English (at 4.00 p.m.).

The "age of memory" is the very term that has been used in the humanities to refer to what is now a decades-long interest in traces of the past as well as in the role and mechanisms that govern memory. In fact, memory has become one of art’s most important and widely analysed – often in a negative way – subjects.

The exhibition features works created over the last twenty years by eminent Polish artists who have chosen memory – both their own memory with its intimate dimension and message, as well as collective memory with its mechanisms, forms and territories – for the principal theme of their oeuvres. Some of the works, such as Common ground by Mirosław Bałka made of almost 200 doormats donated by the citizens of Krakow, have been created especially for the exhibition.
