Decades with art

The political situation in Europe after 1918 made it possible for new countries such as Yugoslavia, Latvia and Czechoslovakia to appear on the European map. Although in the light of the nineteenth-century balance of power and the geopolitical divisions that dominated in the previous century, these areas were on the periphery of the Western world, in the 1920s and 1930s they developed their own dynamics of development and implemented progressive modernization programs.

The modernization strategy envisaged not only economic and social reforms or activities in the field of education. Including plastic arts, architecture and industrial design in their area, these processes often included a comprehensive transformation of the lifestyle in this modern world.

The modernization processes in Czechoslovakia are the subject of another lecture from the series Decades with Art, to which we invite you on August 30 at 12.00.
During the lecture, selected modernization strategies will be discussed, inter alia, on the example of Tomasz Bata's empire in Vilnius or in relation to the colorful environment of the avant-garde in Košice.
The meeting takes place online via the Zoom platform. Participation in the lecture is free of charge. To receive a link to participate, please send an application to the following e-mail address: warsztaty@mck.krakow.pl.
