March 23, 12.00 pm

Join us for a curatorial tour of the exhibition “One Eye Laughing, the Other Crying. Art From Romania in the Ovidiu Șandor Collection” on Sunday, March 23.

The International Cultural Centre in Cracow present works from the collection of Ovidiu Şandor, one of the most important private art collections in Central Europe. The exhibition, part of the Poland-Romania 2024-2025 Cultural Season, shows Romanian art of the last century as a reflection of human destiny - from the avant-garde to the present. Through the artists' individual biographies, the curators weave a visual story about Romania's fate. They also look at them from the inside, through the perspective of the co-curator, collection owner Ovidiu Șandor. The exhibition is a story of creative freedom and constraints, the grotesque and the absurd, the triumphs and traumas of the 20th century that still resonate in contemporary art.

The exhibition runs from March 8 to July 20, 2025.

Dr. Monika Rydiger – art historian and critic, lecturer. Curator at the Gallery of the International Cultural Centre.
