We invite you to an extraordinary guided tour of the exhibition “Brâncuși. Sculpting with Light”, led by Prof. Bogdan Achimescu. The expert will introduce the art of one of Romania's most important artists, creating unique drawings live and projecting them onto the walls of the MCK Gallery.

23 November 2025, 16.00

Brâncuși — a modernist master of self-creation and an icon of 20th-century art — was also a flesh-and-blood human being. Before his name was stripped of its diacritics and transformed into the brand “Brancusi”, he was simply called “Konstanty”. It is worth taking a closer look at his life and work. Krakow artist Bogdan Achimescu offers three such perspectives in his original guided tour: on travel, love and method. He is one of the contemporary artists who, in the exhibition “Brâncuși. Sculpting with Light” present their own works, inspired by the work and biography of the Romanian sculptor and photographer.

Prof. Achimescu's illustrated tour will be an opportunity to enter the world of Constantin Brâncuși through art and storytelling, presented live at the MCK Gallery. Using the space, special projectors and his own drawings, the expert will create an original story about the Romanian artist and highlight the most important issues related to his persona. The event will be one of the highlights of the Krakow Museums Open Day 2025 programme.

Prof. Bogdan Achimescu – artist, painter, creator of printmaking and computer graphics, installations, video projections and environment. He studied at the Cluj Academy of Fine Arts and the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where he is a lecturer. From 2020 to 2024, he was Director of the Doctoral School of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He has also worked at art colleges in Romania and the United States. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Europe, Asia and America. He was Romania's representative at the 2001 Venice Biennale, as part of the Context Network project.

The exhibition organised at the International Cultural Centre in Krakow is a selection of unique photographs of Brâncuși from three prestigious private collections: David Grob, Bruce Silverstein and Christian Reyntjens. The exhibition ‘Brâncuși. Sculpting with Light’ is an attempt to delve into the Romanian artist's creative process, to understand how he perceived the world and matter, and how he used light and shadow to give form deeper meaning.

Admission: PLN 5 (on the occasion of Krakow Museums Open Day 2025)

The exhibition is co-organized by the International Cultural Centre in Krakow and the Romanian Cultural Institute in Warsaw.

The event is organised as part of the Romania–Poland Cultural Season 2024–2025.

The Romania-Poland Cultural Season 2024–2025 is organised by the Romanian Ministry of Culture and the Romanian Institute of Culture, together with the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, with the support of the Polish Institute in Bucharest.
