Book: Museum Age in Central Europe

Katarzyna Jagodzińska
Museum Age in Central Europe. Museums and Centres of Contemporary Art (1989–2014)

Available from February 19, 2015

Central Europe, just like all other parts of the world, witnesses a revival of interest in museums, both on the part of researchers, as well as the public. The 25 years that followed the political transformation of the region can be seen as the time of museums. Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary have become construction sites for museum buildings that were filled with contemporary art. Katarzyna Jagodzińska discusses this phenomenon in her pioneering publication.

The new publication of the International Cultural Centre is the first comprehensive analysis of the landscape of contemporary museums and art centres in Central Europe. The author discusses the museum boom after 1989 situating it in the context of the history of museums in the region, social interests, expectations, and big museum debates.
