Architectural workshop: “The Organic Nature of Inanimate Objects”

Join us for a workshop where we will create clay forms inspired by the art of Constantin Brâncuși and architecture! Bartłomiej Pochopień, the workshop leader, will explain also what organic architecture is, and together we will consider how buildings can form a coherent, harmonious whole with nature.

Organic food, cosmetics, clothing, life... and organic architecture? Of course! It is a trend in design in which buildings and spaces harmoniously interact with nature, the environment and people. It is characterised by fluid, natural forms, draws inspiration from nature and uses materials such as wood, clay and stone.

The ICC invites you to an extremely organic architectural workshop, during which participants will create various forms from clay, using metaphors inspired by Constantin Brâncuși's natural sculptures, which balance on the border of abstraction. The classes will be combined with a lecture that will introduce the ideas and examples of organic architecture and show their connections with the work of the outstanding Romanian artist.

The workshops accompany the exhibition “Brâncuși. Sculpting with Light”.

Lecturer:

Bartłomiej Pochopień – architect, designer, graduate of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Krakow University of Technology. He co-founded the design studio “Studio Styczna”, which in 2017 received the “Architecture of the Year of the Silesian Province” award, and Bartłomiej Pochopień was awarded the title of “Young Creator of Silesian Architecture”. In 2014–2015, he was responsible for creating the conceptual design for the “New Main Exhibition” at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. He is involved in architectural education (Academy of Architecture).

The exhibition is co-organized by the International Cultural Centre in Krakow and the Romanian Cultural Institute in Warsaw.

The exhibition is part of the 2024-2025 Romania–Poland Cultural Season

The Romania–Poland Cultural Season 2024-2025 is organised by the Romanian Ministry of Culture and the Romanian Cultural Institute, together with the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, with the support of the Polish Institute in Bucharest. During the season, several dozen events will take place, including exhibitions, music, theatre, film and literary events.
