Aleksander Sokołow at the ICC

On Wednesday, April 18, the ICC hosted Professor Alexander Sokolov who was visiting Krakow in order to discuss organisation of a new exhibition provisionally entitled Polish St. Petersburg to be officially opened in 2015. According to an agreement between Mr Alexander Avdeev, the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, and Mr Bogdan Zdrojewski, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland, the year 2015 will be announced the season of Polish culture in Russia, and, conversely, of Russian culture in Poland.
Professor Alexander Sokolov is a lecturer at the Faculty of History at the St. Petersburg State University as well as a member of Orthodox-Scientific Council for publication of the Orthodox Encyclopaedia. He is the author of numerous books and articles, including a monograph entitled Russian charity in the mirror of history, published in Polish in 2002 under the title Rosyjska dobroczynność w zwierciadle historii. Since 1997 he has been the director of the Russian State Historical Archives based in St. Petersburg – the biggest institution of its kind in Europe, and one of the largest in the whole world.
