About a visit which electrified Krynica
The exhibition is presented in the ICC medieval cellers

In January 1937 the town of Krynica witnessed an event which created a sensation all over the world. The event was directly related to a visit paid to Krynica by Princess Julianna, an heiress to the Dutch throne, and Prince Bernard, her husband. The newlyweds arrived in Krynica straight from the Hague to spend their honeymoon in the mountain resort. Distinguished guests took rooms in the luxurious boarding house “Patria” which was owned by Jan Kiepura, a world-class tenor. The news of the couple’s arrival was widely covered by the Polish press, while the visit itself turned out to be one of the top events in the history of Krynica. The exhibition narrates the event taking into account the atmosphere of the health resort and supplements it with a little known episode. Almost a year after the couple’s visit to Krynica, Princess Julianna and Prince Bernard were given a cradle by the Poles to celebrate the birth of Beatrix, the couple’s first daughter and the current Queen of the Netherlands. The exhibition organised upon the initiative of the Friends of the Muszyna Almanac Association to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the visit reminds us of a very special role played by the event in the history of Polish-Dutch relations and the resort itself.
