A war-like disputes by historians-medievalists? (to use an example of bellum genealogicum at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries)
A lecture by Ivanna Papa

Ivanna Papa is a PhD student at the Ivan Franco National University in Lviv. Her research interests include the origin and genealogy of princely families of the Giedyminas dynasty in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania – in particular, the Sanguszcy, Zbarascy and Wiśniowieccy families. Her lecture will give an account of a fierce debate on the before-mentioned phenomenon which was conducted by historians-medievalists at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and which is known in history studies as the so-called bellum genealogicum. The basis for Papa’s report are the historians’ publications and letters. She will also present her own reflections on the disputes concerning the representation of the past as conducted by historians.
