Art Nouveau details, original furniture, stained-glass windows, and the metal globe atop the clock tower visible from afar—we invite you to take a walk through the Art Nouveau masterpiece that is the House Under the Globe. Dr. Michał Wiśniewski will discuss its history, the artists involved in its creation and its extraordinary interiors.

May 8, 2026, 15.00

Today’s House Under the Globe, originally the seat of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, was built in 1906 as part of the transformations that shaped the modern face of Kraków. This unique building was designed by Franciszek Mączyński and Tadeusz Stryjeński, architects who at the time had experience collaborating on projects, including Kraków’s Palace of Art. Although Stanisław Wyspiański was originally supposed to work on the interior design, the task was ultimately entrusted to Józef Mehoffer. The decorative interiors, together with the façade, form a complete Art Nouveau masterpiece, created through the collaboration of outstanding artists and craftsmen such as Józef Mehoffer, Konstanty Laszczka, Władysław Ekielski and Antoni Tuch.

During the walk, led by Dr. Michał Wiśniewski, we will examine, among other things, the richly decorated Mehoffer Hall, the wood paneling and polychromes complemented by original furniture and lighting, and we will also discuss the sculptural decorations, metalwork and stained glass visible from the outside.
