The 4th International Conference on Historic Cities 3.0 was held at the International Cultural Centre on April 10-11, with discussions revolving around the main theme: “Tourism in the sustainable transformation of cities: In search of a viable balance”.


Organized by the City Hall of Krakow, the conference focused on the challenges that tourism poses to historic cities. They discussed how to deal with excessive tourism, climate change and the need to increase the participation of residents in shaping urban space. Those attending the conference considered together how to incorporate tourism into the sustainable development of cities and their transformation. They talked about the need to combine environmental protection with care for cultural heritage. The conference was attended by specialists in tourism policy and marketing, culture, urban development and urban policy, sociology, law, architecture, artists, activists and people representing local government authorities. The conference was summarized by the Mayor of the City of Krakow, Aleksander Miszalski.

Historic Cities 3.0 is a project that promotes a new approach to urban management, tourism and communication. It emphasizes the need for sustainable development and a new approach to travel by tourists, characterized by an emphasis on authentic experiences and values. The initiative draws attention to the importance of local governments working together with urban activists and entrepreneurs to initiate new local projects, revitalize urban space and create new tourist attractions. Its main goal is to shape urban space as a meeting place for residents and tourists, and to combine local creativity with the dynamic perspectives of city visitors.
