Special Award of the “Eastern Review” for Tomas Venclova

In the XXXII edition of the “Eastern Review” Prize for 2024, the Special Award for lifetime research, work and scholarly output was given to Tomas Venclova. This prominent Lithuanian poet, essayist, publicist, researcher and translator of fiction is the author of many publications, including the book “Lithuania, My Homeland,” published by the International Cultural Centre in Cracow in 2024, translated by Beata Kalemba. 

The Eastern Review Prize is a prestigious award that has been given since 1994 by the scholarly quarterly “Eastern Review” for the best scholarly books on Eastern European topics. The award is well respected in the scientific community, and among the winners are outstanding researchers in various fields, such as history, law, political science or ethnology, coming from countries such as Belarus, France, Germany, Lithuania, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine or the USA.

The Aleksander Gieysztor Prize was also awarded, to the Centre for Research on Antique Tradition in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe (Warsaw), headed by Jerzy Axer., the Society of the Institute of Central and Eastern Europe (Lublin), represented by Hubert Łaszkiewicz., the “Borderland - of Arts, Cultures, Nations” Center (Sejny), led by Krzysztof Czyżewski.

The jury of the XXXII edition of the “Eastern Review” Award for 2024 included:

Dorota Janiszewska-Jakubiak, Łukasz Kamiński, Helena Krasowska, Jan Malicki, Wojciech Materski, Lech Mróz, Andrzej Rachuba, Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, Leszek Zasztowt.

The Awards will be presented on March 29 in Warsaw.
