In times of global tensions and environmental challenges, Central Europe is becoming an area whose role and responsibility is growing. Can this region contribute to building a new Europe? Outstanding experts will try to answer this question during the session "Does the future of our continent depend on Central Europe today?" taking place on November 19, 2024 as part of the Open Eyes Economy Summit. The event is under the patronage of the International Cultural Center.

The discussion will be moderated by prof. Jacek Purchla, who, as a member of the OEES Program Council, will provide substantive support for the debate. The introduction will be given by Emil Brix, director of the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, who will present the most important geopolitical conditions that shape the role of Central Europe in the modern world.

Guests invited to the discussion:

• Piotr Buras, director of the European Council on Foreign Affairs in Warsaw, who will present the importance of Central Europe in the context of European Union policy;

• Karl Schlögel, an outstanding historian from the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt, who will look at the region through the prism of its rich history and social changes;

• Magda Vášáryová, Slovak actress, diplomat and former ambassador to Poland, who will share her reflection on the cultural and political influence of Central Europe.

The session will be a unique opportunity to understand what challenges and opportunities our region faces and what future Central Europe can create for the entire continent.
