On November 21, the International Cultural Center in Krakow will host a unique event with Vladimir 518, entitled “Czech Architecture 58-89”.

Vladimir 518 is a Czech visual artist whose work includes visual arts, music and projects documenting the cultural heritage of Czechoslovakia.

He will give a lecture on the turbulent fate of Czech post-war architecture, which - despite its unique character and historical value - still faces misunderstanding and negative public perception. Vladimir 518 will present selected architectural projects and introduce the figures of key Czech architects such as Karel Prager, Věra and Vladimír Machonin, as well as representatives of the SIAL group. Monumental projects of this generation, such as the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry in Prague, the Kotva department store and the television transmitter on Mount Ještěd, are an important part of the history of Czech public space.

The lecture will take a look at the unique architectural heritage of the Czech Republic and will introduce the problem of preserving buildings from the second half of the 20th century, today often devoid of preservation protection or demolished.

The lecture will be held at 6 p.m. in the Hall under the Ravens, in English. It will be translated simultaneously into Polish and into PJM. Live subtitles for the deaf will be available during the lecture. It will last about 90 minutes. Later, a discussion with the audience - 30 minutes.
