We invite you to the first post-holiday meeting of the Central European Book Club, which will take place on September 10 at 6.00 p.m. in the ICC panoramic room.

It will be devoted to the novel "The Colonel’s Wife" by Rosa Liksom, a Finnish writer born on the Finnish-Swedish border. The entire novel is originally written in the Meänkieli dialect, which is spoken exclusively in this area and is not a Sámi dialect.

"The Colonel’s Wife" is a romance, but also a novel about political and ideological entanglements, about characters who, out of fear of communism, trust Nazism and want to conquer all Finnish-speaking nations under the flag of Greater Finland.

However, the love affair with Nazism ends in disappointment - Hitler turns out to be short and too wrinkled. However, instead of coming to terms with his own views, he reflects on his relationship with the Colonel.

So we will ask whether a contemporary novel can handle a romance story today. Does romance still have something to offer us? How do languages work? Do only the "national" ones prove to be the right tool for communicating more sophisticated content, and the "folk" ones only serve for ethnographic research?

The meeting lasts approximately 2 hours, we invite all people who like to read and have long discussions about books.
