Lecture: "From the city to the countryside. Contemporary art versus folk inspirations"

February 9, 11 am

Folklore became a substantial source of inspiration for Polish artists at the turn of the 19th century. Stanisław Witkiewicz was delighted with the architecture of Zakopane and Podhale's craftsmanship. Włodzimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer, inspired by rural lifestyle, moved to Bronowice village near Krakow. Interest in folklore and things outside cities can be seen among other artists of this era.

However, artistic inspirations in folklore and rural lifestyle were not popular only over a century ago. Modern art and design also draw from folklore and relate to practices of communities living outside urban agglomerations. Examples can be seen in the artwork of Daniel Rycharski, Carolina Caycedo, Jym Davis, Alicja Bielawska, and Grupa Centralna.

The lecture was held on February 9, 11 am. Free admission. It was also streamed online via Zoom. To receive a link to participate, we asked you to send an application to the following e-mail address: warsztaty@mck.krakow.pl.
