German Prague? Lecture by Piotr M. Majewski

Prague played a special role in the Nazi plans. In the eyes of German nationalists, the Czech capital remained one of the historical and spiritual centres of the Reich, which had to be recovered from the hands of the Slavs once and for all. Both the plans for monumental investments and the systematic Germanization of public space served this purpose.

Professor Piotr Maciej Majewski – historian of modern history, works at the Historical Institute of the University of Warsaw. In 2009-2017 he was the deputy director of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, where he was responsible for the development of the main exhibition. He specialises in the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech-German relations in the 20th century. Winner of the Klio Prize, finalist of the Nike Literary Prize.
