During World War II, Krakow was the seat of the General Government. Accordingly, a number of offices were located in the city, and the German administration employed numerous German officials. One of the most important tasks for the occupation authorities was to provide these officials with space to live and work. From the beginning of the occupation, the Germans were eager to take over apartments and entire tenement houses in the vicinity of Aleje Trzech Wieszczów, displacing Polish and Jewish residents.

In February 1941, it was decided to build a separate German district. The plans for the housing estate, which was to stretch along today's Królewska Street all the way to Kronikarza Galla Street, were only partially implemented on the vacant lots, where blocks of flats in a new style were constructed. Within two years, more than a hundred multi-story buildings with distinctive roofs were erected.

During the walk, we will see tenement houses built during the occupation and learn about the life of their German inhabitants. We will learn how they spent their free time and where they worked. We will find out where anti-aircraft shelters were built in this neighbourhood and why the streetcar line in Pomorska and Kazimierza Wielkiego streets was closed.
