Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik in the Jury of the Kazimiera Bujwidowa Award


Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, the director of the International Cultural Centre, was appointed to the jury evaluating candidates for the "Kazimiera Bujwidowa Award". The award is granted by the Mayor of Krakow to honour exceptional women – "outstanding female citizens of Krakow who are the strength of our city".

The award established last year is named after Kazimiera Bujwidowa, born in 1867, a Krakow-based activist for equality between women and men. Kazimiera Bujwidowa fought against illiteracy, facilitating access to education, especially for girls. She was a promoter of free reading rooms for children and teenagers. She chaired the Krakow Reading Room for Women – a place supporting the emancipation movement. She was one of the pioneers of the fight for women's rights to higher education and created the first gymnasium for girls with a matriculation examination. She was actively involved in the fight for the right of women to vote in general elections.

Candidates for the award can be submitted by every adult resident of Krakow, both male and female. Application deadlines will be announced every year. The award is to be granted annually – for the preceding year. A maximum of four women can receive the award at one time, women "whose attitudes and achievements have a significant impact on the reality around us, bring positive change, create innovative initiatives, work to strengthen women in the labour market, are committed to improving the lives of local communities and act as an inspiration for the younger generation of girls and boys ”.

2) Andrzej Kulig - Deputy Mayor of Krakow for Social and Municipal Policy;

3) Bogumiła Drabik - representative of the Krakow City Council;

4) Olga Brzezińska - representative of the Equal Treatment Council;

5) Dominika Kozłowska - representative of the Equal Treatment Council;

6) Beata Kowalska - Jagiellonian University;

7) Magdalena Sroka - former president of the Polish Film Institute;

8) Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik - director of the International Cultural Centre in Krakow;

9) Zofia Gołubiew - former director of the National Museum in Krakow.

The Jury's task is to develop the regulations and work schedule of the jury and to approve the design for the statuette of the "Kazimiera Bujwidowa Award” A.D. 2021. It will also verify the initial lists of candidates for the award and will present to the Mayor of the City of Krakow an application containing candidates for the "Kazimiera Bujwidowa Award” A.D. 2021.
