Decades with art. Race against time - the beginnings of photography

2021-12-20, 12:00 a.m.
The invention of photography at first aroused fear and fascinated at the same time - it made it possible to see what had not been available to the human eye until now, it allowed us to stop time, capture what is passing and deadly.

The profession of a photographer was a profession based on knowledge and experiments in the field of exact sciences (including optics, chemistry), but the first amateurs of this medium were often considered by their surroundings not so much as scientists, but as alchemists, surprising the public with increasing proficiency and precision in showing the material world. Technological progress has resulted, among others, in the fact that the initial exposure times of several hours were shortened to just a few dozen seconds, so that at the end of the 19th century they could already reach the value of a fraction of a second.

During the lecture that will recall the exhibition "Tempus fugit. On time and passing ”, the works of photography pioneers such as Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre, William Henry Fox Talbot and Eadweard Muybridge will be discussed.

We invite you to the on-line lecture via the Zoom platform on December 20 at 12.00. Participation in the lecture is free of charge. To receive a link to participate, please send an application to the following e-mail address:
