This year marks the 125th anniversary of the birth of the Croatian Vilim Frančić, an outstanding researcher associated with Krakow and the Jagiellonian University since his youth. His person is devoted to the Polish-Croatian conference that will take place on September 27 at the International Cultural Centre.

Vilim Frančić studied and worked at the Jagiellonian University. He was a broad-based Slavist, author of many translations from Croatian literature into Polish. Very active socially, he was active in various organizations and institutions. He belonged to the scouting movement, served as a soldier of the 2nd Brigade of the Polish Legions. He collaborated with the Polish Academy of Sciences, he was active in the Polish-Yugoslav Society, he was the editor of the Slavic section in Dziennik Polski. During World War II, he belonged to the secret School Board.

Throughout his life, Frančić was extremely active in building lasting ties between Poles and Croats. For his activities, he received many institutional and state decorations, including the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

On September 27, in Krakow, a conference will be held by "Vilim Frančić - Croatian and Pole in one person - on the 125th anniversary of his birth". At. 9 on the building at ul. Marii Konopnickiej 5, a commemorative plaque dedicated to the great Croat will be unveiled. The conference will start at 10.30 in the International Cultural Center, 25 Main Square. Guests will be welcomed by Paweł Włodarczyk, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Croatia, Tomislav Vidošević, the ambassador of the Republic of Croatia, and Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, director of the ICC.
