The most prestigious award for the ambassador of Polish literature abroad, awarded by the Book Institute, this year went to Professor Tokimasa Sekiguchi, an outstanding promoter of Polish culture in Japan, who has been cooperating with the International Cultural Centre for many years.

Professor Tokimasa Sekiguchi is a translator of exceptional sensitivity and rare erudition. The Polish cultural universe and spirituality encoded in literature are hermetic even in the European context. Translating them to such a diametrically different cultural circle as the Japanese, making them more accessible to recipients of different sensitivity, culture, history and religion, and at the same time preserving the artistic value of the translated works deserve the highest recognition.

Tokimasa Sekiguchi (1951) - Japanese Polish teacher, literature translator, essayist, lecturer of Polish culture at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, co-founder and member of the Association of Polish and Foreign Teachers of Polish Culture and Polish as a Foreign Language "Bristol". He received numerous awards for his translation work, including "Distinguished for Polish Culture" (1998), Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland (2008) and the Silver Medal "Gloria Artis" (2015).
