Cancellation of the Night of Museums in Krakow

This year, once again, the International Cultural Centre planned to open its doors to Krakow residents during the Night of Museums. Although we are not a museum institution, we had the honor and pleasure to join the group of institutions participating in this unique event. Below we publish the official announcement informing about the cancellation of this year's edition.

Statement of the Permanent Conference of Directors of Krakow Museums and the Department of Culture and National Heritage of the Krakow City Office regarding the cancellation of the Night of Museums in Krakow.

Due to the epidemic of coronavirus prevailing in Poland, the closure of all cultural institutions to the public and the introduction of further bans and restrictions by the Polish government, the MUSEUMS NIGHT IN KRAKÓW planned for 15/16 of May this year will not take place!

In a situation where the whole world is struggling with an epidemic, it is our duty to ensure the continuity of the institution's functioning and to secure our common good, which is museum collections.

Despite many restrictions, Krakow museums continue their mission. Each of them, to the best of their abilities and resources, tries to keep in touch with the audience through their websites and social media. In this way, on an unprecedented scale, museums are still "open", sharing their collections online, organizing virtual tours of closed galleries and exhibitions, or preparing special educational classes or lectures. This great activity of museums and other cultural institutions is a phenomenon that is already global. Museums and museum workers want to be and are close to people, proving every day that even in "times of plague" it is possible.

Like everyone we are waiting for the moment when we will be able to go out into the streets again, return to normal work, when we reopen the door to not only Krakow museums.
