“Austeria” (February 20, 7 p.m.), dir. Jerzy Kawalerowicz, 1982
The world of Galician Jews presented in an exceptional moment of the end of the era, at the very beginning of the First World War. Based on a book by Julian Stryjkowski.

“Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” (February 21, 7 p.m.), dir. Sergei Parajanov, 1964
An adaptation of a novel by Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky under the same title. The Ukrainian film, for a long time forbidden in the USSR, brought Parajanov international acclaim. It is an attempt to enter the spiritual world of Hutsuls – one of the oldest ethnic groups of the Carpathians. Filled with religious and national symbolism, the work was a breakthrough in the Socialist Realist method of making Soviet films.

“Strawberry Wine” (February 21, 7 p.m.), dir. Dariusz Jabłoński, 2008
A Polish-Slovakian comedy-drama based on motifs from Andrzej Stasiuk’s short stories from the collection “Galician Stories”.

“The Lesson of a Dead Language” (February 22, 7 p.m.), dir. Janusz Majewski, 1979
A psychological film based on a novel by Andrzej Kuśniewicz. The plot takes place in the final weeks of the First World War in a multicultural Galician town.

“Sanatorium under the Sign of the Hourglass” (February 23, 7 p.m.), dir. Wojciech Jerzy Has, 1973
The film tells a surrealist story about a young man who visits the sanatorium of doctor Gotard, where he wanders through a mysterious labyrinth of a revived land of his childhood. It is a world of a small Jewish town in the era of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. A free adaptation of Bruno Schulz’s short story.

“Dodek on the Front” (February 24, 7 p.m.), dir. Michał Waszyński, 1936
The plot takes place during the First World War. Dodek Wędzonka, a former football player and at present a soldier of the Austrian army is by mistake taken for a Russian officer and a doctor. His sense of humour and his wit save him from numerous troubles.
