The ICC Director and Programme Board are visiting Lithuania

On 4 June 2018 Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, the ICC director, and Łukasz Galusek, deputy director for programme policy, met in Kaunas with representatives of Lithuanian cultural institutions to discuss potential collaboration in organisation of Polish-Lithuanian cultural projects.

Among the delegates were: Professor Giedre Mickunaite from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vilnius, Sigutė Maslauskaitė, director of the Church Heritage Museum in Vilnius, and Diana Varnaitė from the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture.

Notably, at the turn of 2015 and 2016, one of Poland's major cultural events was the exhibition of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, organised by the ICC together with the Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis National Museum of Art in Kaunas. Čiurlionis, one of the major Lithuanian artists, made works that contained elements of Symbolism, Expressionism, as well as beginnings of abstraction.

This versatile artist, who composed music, made paintings and prints, as well as wrote poetry, had been largely unknown to the Polish public prior to the exhibition, even though his connections with Polish art scene at the turn of the 19th and 20th century were particularly strong.
