The birth of Brasilia

2015-04-10, 10:00 a.m.
One of the major motifs of Cristiano Mascaro’s art is city and its architecture. Two Brazilian cities have been particularly favoured by the artist, namely São Paulo and Brasilia. The history of the latter – a new capital of the state – is particularly fascinating. Deep inside the country, the city was erected in just a couple of years according to the plans conceived by Lúcio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer. The lecture will address the very origins of the city which has become Brazil’s prime symbol of independence, progress and modernity.
