Wine, the avant-garde and debates on identity – a discussion about “Herito. Moravia” issue on Radio

Bartosz Sadulski, editor-in-chief of “Herito”, spoke with Michał Sowiński about the magazine’s 59th issue. During the programme on Radio Kraków, they discussed, amongst other things, why Moravia remains largely undiscovered, whether a Central European identity can be appealing today, and what shapes its contemporary character.

In his conversation with Michał Sowiński, Bartosz Sadulski spoke, amongst other things, about places worth visiting in the Moravia region, which are featured in the latest issue of the magazine published by the International Cultural Centre. He highlighted Brno and its remarkable architecture, particularly its modernist buildings; he spoke about Znojmo and the region’s wine culture; and he recommended Ostrava and Olomouc, its post-industrial heritage and the remarkable art on display in the local museums; he also mentioned Třebíč, the town’s Jewish quarter and the St. Procopius Basilica, all of which are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

He also discussed the concept of Central Europe with editor Sowiński, and how it is perceived from today’s perspective. He spoke about how countries from Estonia to Albania had to reclaim their voice over the years, forging a multi-layered cultural identity. He also recommended reading the magazine “Herito. Moravia”, in which readers can also learn about how the region’s territorial and cultural boundaries have changed, discover Brno’s interwar avant-garde, explore the phenomenon of modernist Zlín – which Le Corbusier admired – and gain a deeper understanding of Ostrava’s industrial heritage.
