A talk on the architecture of Stanisławów with Dr Żanna Komar in Ivano-Frankivsk

On 1 July, the architecture and art researcher, and deputy director of the Institute of European Heritage at the International Cultural Centre, spoke about books on the architecture of Stanisławów, including her own publications. The event took place as part of the celebrations for Architect’s Day in Ukraine, at the Potocki Palace in Ivano-Frankivsk. 

In her presentation, Dr Żanna Komar highlighted two publications focusing on the architecture of Stanisławów – books she has authored: “Trzecie miasto Galicji. Stanisławów i jego architektura w okresie autonomii galicyjskiej” (ICC Publishing House, 2008) and “Stanyslaviv 20/XX. The city and architecture” (KEW Publishing, 2023). The event provided an opportunity to discuss architecture and its creators, as well as the city’s multicultural history. Referring to her publications, the ICC representative shed light on little-known aspects of the city’s history and introduced the architects who shaped Stanisławów’s image.

Dr Komar also spoke about projects relating to Ukraine’s history, art and contemporary life, carried out by the MCK. An art and architecture historian and curator, she has worked on exhibitions including:  “Odessa. The Long 20th Century in Art” (2024), “Ukraine. A different angle on neighbourhood” (2021/2022), “Lviv, 24 June 1937. City, Architecture, Modernism” (2017/2018), “Ukraine. Waiting for a Hero. Kostyrko, Ravski” (2016) and “The Myth of Galicia” (2014/2015), to which she referred.

The meeting with Dr Żanna Komar took place as part of Architect’s Day in Ukraine, which was celebrated on 1 and 2 July 2026. This was yet another visit by a representative of the ICC to the Potocki Palace in Ivano-Frankivsk. In May 2026, together with the director, Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, she visited the palace for the opening of the exhibition “The Armenian Cathedral in Lviv and its Architects”. This exhibition was organised on the initiative of members of the Association of Graduates of the Academy of Heritage (a postgraduate programme coordinated by the ICC and the University of Economics in Kraków since 2001), which was founded in 2005 and is committed to the protection of Polish heritage abroad.
