Finissage guided tour of the exhibition “Hope in Confinement”

The International Cultural Centre in Krakow invites you to a guided tour of the exhibition “Hope in Confinement”, which will take place on the last day of the exhibition.

The tour will take the form of a dialogue led by Natalia Jastrzębska, author of photographs documenting conservation activities and the initiative “Ukraine We Help in Lviv” (“Ukraina Pomagamy”), and Joanna Majewska-Grabowska, translator, educator and Ukrainian studies specialist. The meeting will be an opportunity to hear the testimonies of people involved in the protection of cultural heritage in wartime, as well as to reflect on the importance of art as a space of resistance, support and hope.

The exhibition “Hope in Confinement” summarises three years of activity by a Polish-Ukrainian group of volunteers, artists and conservators who are saving monuments in war-torn Ukraine, while also providing assistance to medics and soldiers on the front line. It is a story about saving heritage and life, about solidarity across borders, about the power of community and responsibility for culture. The visual story of support for Ukraine at war is complemented by metal ammunition boxes brought from the front and painted by Ukrainian artists. They are a symbol of the closure of war, but also of finding a place for hope, born despite fear, suffering and uncertainty. The exhibition is accompanied by a charity auction.
