On 25–26 September 2025, the ICC will host an international scientific conference on Budapest and the influence of the Slavs on the shape and cultural significance of this city.

International Cultural Centre in Krakow, The Slavic Cultures in the Habsburg Monarchy Research Group at Institute of Western and Southern Slavs at the University of Warsaw and the Tadeusz Manteuffel Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences invite you to a scientific conference on the formation of Budapest at the crossroads of ethnic elements. Discussions and presentations will focus on Slavic themes in the history, spaces and narratives of this unique city.

The topics to be discussed at the conference include the presence of Slavs – Slovaks, Serbs, Croats, Slovenes, Rusyns, Poles – as well as non-Slavs in Budapest, and the relations and interactions between different ethnic groups. The city will also be considered as a communication structure undergoing changes and transformations, where different voices and media mix, and as a labour market and a space where social classes, minorities and migrants become visible. The cultures of memory created in Budapest by non-Hungarian local communities, Slavic policies of commemoration, and the transformation of the city's public space for the needs of its various groups of residents will also be discussed.

The event programme is available for download in PDF format.
