“Brâncuși. Sculpting with Light” – a new exhibition at the ICC coming in September

We invite you to enter the artistic world of one of the most important artists of the 20th century. The exhibition at the ICC will present Constantin Brâncuși's photographs, which will not only be a documentation of his most famous sculptures, but also nuanced, separate works of art.

The photographs on display at the ICC Gallery will show the transformation of Brâncuși's sculptural works and of himself as an artist and thinker who used various methods of artistic expression. The exhibition will take viewers on a symbolic journey from Romania, the artist's homeland, to the heart of contemporary art – Paris. Its narrative will allow us to go deeper into Brâncuși's work, focusing on elements such as his play with light, his relationship with matter, space and how the works of the artist and other artists function within it.

The exhibition will also talk about how Brâncuși was seen by his contemporaries. The ICC will present works and figures by some of the most famous photographers of the 20th century, such as Man Ray and Edward Steichen. They will provide a commentary and background to the Romanian artist's works. The exhibition will also transport viewers to Târgu Jiu, home to one of Brâncuși's most iconic bodies of work in his native country.

The ICC Gallery will also show current interpretations of Brâncuși's work, as artistically rendered by Bogdan Achimescu, Maciek Bernaś, Bartek Buczek, Michał Sroka and Bogusław Bachorczyk. The exhibition “Brâncuși. Sculpting with Light”will take you back in time and place, highlighting the importance of creating space around you and sometimes simplicity as a way of getting closer to the essence of things.
