Did you know that the railway viaduct on Grzeg\u00f3rzecka Street in Krak\u00f3w was once a bridge under which the Vistula flowed? And that for centuries, Kazimierz was an island surrounded by two branches of the river? Join us for a walk in the footsteps of the Old Vistula \u2013 the former northern channel that significantly shaped this part of Krak\u00f3w.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The presence of the Vistula made Grzeg\u00f3rzki one of the city\u2019s most important industrial and working-class centres. It was here that numerous factories, the municipal abattoir and housing estates for workers were built. For nearly two centuries, the Old Vistula was the river\u2019s main channel within Krak\u00f3w, setting the rhythm of its inhabitants\u2019 lives and the direction of the city\u2019s development. During the walk, we will trace the history of changes to the Vistula\u2019s course and its impact on Krak\u00f3w\u2019s urban development. We will talk about the beginnings of Krak\u00f3w\u2019s railway system and the development of trade and medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
