The widespread availability of books and images, together with advances in the study of vision, opened up new possibilities for understanding and representing reality. Join us for a lecture in the Mature for Art series, where the story of these revolutionary changes will be set against the backdrop of the Collegium Maius and its rich collections.<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The invention of printing and discoveries in the field of optics transformed European culture forever. Thanks to printing, knowledge and images began to circulate on an unprecedented scale. At the same time, the development of geometric perspective and research into vision shaped new ways of representing space in painting and architecture, but also altered the visual representation of humanity\u2019s relationship with the surrounding world. Collegium Maius, with its rich collection of books, prints, optical instruments and astronomical equipment, will provide the backdrop for a story of how art and science together opened up new horizons of the imagination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mature Art sessions,<\/a> led by art historian and long-standing ICC collaborator, Dr Ma\u0142gorzata J\u0119drzejczyk, are aimed at an adult audience, with a particular focus on mature participants. The lectures analyse issues related to art history and culture in relation to themes that have also been presented in exhibitions at the ICC. This is an excellent opportunity for discussion and a deeper understanding of the works and their context. The Mature for Art lectures are currently organised in collaboration with the Jagiellonian University and take place at the Jagiellonian University Museum, Collegium Maius.
