The Prohibited Arts in the Third Reich“ (19 October 2011 – 29 January 2012) will be devoted to the relationship between modern art and architecture and the ideology of National Socialism in Germany. The starting point for the discussion will be the history of the Bauhaus – one of the most important design schools of the 20th century.

The Bauhaus as a starting point

During the meeting, together with Dr Małgorzata Jędrzejczyk, we will examine the ideas that underpinned teaching at the Bauhaus. The researcher will discuss the relationship between art, craft and factory production, as well as the school’s vision of architecture and design, which was tailored to the needs of modern society. The lecture will also discuss the transformations that took place at the Bauhaus under the influence of the changing political situation in the Weimar Republic. Taking the Bauhaus as its starting point, the lecture will show how art and architecture became a field of ideological disputes at that time, as well as how the artists associated with the school reacted to political pressure.

Lecture from the series “Decades with Art” – practical information:

The meeting will be held online via the Zoom platform.

Participation in the lecture is free of charge.

To receive a link to the meeting, please send your application to: warsztaty@mck.krakow.pl

The lecture will be held in Polish.

Host:

Dr. Małgorzata Jędrzejczyk – art historian, curator.
