One such project is participation in the Festival of Art History, which will take place from 4 to 6 June 2027, with Poland as the guest of honour. The guests also familiarised themselves with the current activities of the International Cultural Centre in Kraków and its plans for the coming year, relating to the modernisation of our premises and the reopening.

The Art History Festival for the academic community and the general public

he Art History Festival, which was one of the topics discussed at the meeting, is organised by the National Institute for Art History and the Palace of Fontainebleau on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture. It always centres on a single theme – in 2027, this will be “magic” – and a guest of honour, which is a selected country. It comprises around 250 events: conferences, debates, film screenings, exhibitions, book and magazine launches, workshops and other types of events, including those aimed at younger audiences. The aim of the festival is to showcase the richness of the visual arts across different periods. The event is aimed at both researchers and the general public. In connection with Poland’s guest of honour status, the organisers are inviting cultural and academic institutions from our country to collaborate.

Representatives from the National Institute for Art History have come to Kraków to work on the festival’s academic programme. This usually includes meetings and workshops for young experts. A selected group of PhD students first meets in the guest of honour country or in Paris, and then in Fontainebleau, to establish contacts with a wide network of people specialising in issues related to art history, museology and cultural heritage. This programme, designed to facilitate the exchange of experiences, is intended to make a significant contribution to the academic and professional development of the project’s participants, whilst broadening their international perspectives.

The France–Poland Season 2027 and Europe as a shared space

Cooperation within the framework of the Art History Festival will form part of the France–Poland Season 2027, which will begin in the second half of February. The joint programme will be implemented simultaneously in Poland and France, creating a space for dialogue, cooperation and encounters between artists, representatives of the cultural sector and the public. In France, it will be organised by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in collaboration with the Polish Institute in Paris, whilst in Poland it will be organised by the French Institute in collaboration with the French Embassy in Poland.

It will also involve organising collaboration within one of the season’s four thematic areas: “Europe as a shared space”. This invites young researchers to reflect on Europe in the context of multiple identities, the relationship between the centre and the periphery, borders, heritage and the contemporary transformations affecting these areas. Representatives from the French National Institute for Art History also came to Kraków to explore opportunities for collaboration in this area. At the ICC, they also discussed the EVA project (“Visual Arts in Europe: An Open History”), which aims to present, in the form of an online platform, an extensive collection of 470 objects and images gathered as part of an international dialogue, taking into account the diversity of scholarly traditions. Poland is represented in the project jointly by the ICC and the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences, which will help organise a seminar on the subject, scheduled for September 2027. The event will also take place as part of the France–Poland Season 2027.

On 22 October 2026, representatives from the French National Institute for Art History (INHA) – Aniela Cornet, Dr Sophie Goetzmann and Dr Elsa Guyot – visited the International Cultural Centre in Kraków.
