This year\u2019s week-long training course focused on cultural heritage in the Czech Republic, and the main venue for the project was \u010cesk\u00fd Krumlov, whose historic centre was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992. Twenty people representing organisations and institutions from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary were selected to take part in the project. All of them work in the heritage sector on a daily basis and are professionally or academically involved in the management or conservation of historic sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The V4 Heritage Academy 2019 was opened by a lecture given by Prof. Jacek Purchla, founder and long-standing director of the International Cultural Centre, and, since 2015, Chair of the Polish National Commission for UNESCO. The teaching staff also included, amongst others: Dr Tam\u00e1s Fej\u00e9rdy \u2013 a Hungarian university lecturer, architect and conservationist (Chair of the World Heritage Committee from 2002 to 2003, Vice-President of ICOMOS from 2005 to 2008, and President of the Hungarian National Committee of ICOMOS from 1997 to 2003) and Dr Katar\u00edna Kosov\u00e1, Director-General of the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The participants spent their first few days in Krak\u00f3w attending lectures combined with tours of the historic city centre, which was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as early as 1978. Among others, they met with Robert Piaskowski, the Mayor of Krak\u00f3w\u2019s Representative for Culture, and attended the opening of the exhibition “Skopje: City, Architecture and the Art of Solidarity”<\/a>, organised by the International Cultural Centre. They then travelled via Krom\u011b\u0159\u00ed\u017e to \u010cesk\u00fd Krumlov for workshops on the impact of tourism on heritage, contemporary methods of managing historic sites, and the complex history and heritage of the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The course is being run by the ICC as part of the cooperation within the Working Group of Experts on Cultural Heritage of the Visegrad Group countries. The permanent partners of the project are the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Council for the Protection of Monuments of the Slovak Republic and the Department of Cultural Heritage of the Office of the Prime Minister of Hungary.
