The Advisory Board of the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS), to which Agata W\u0105sowska-Pawlik has been nominated, brings together leading figures from the worlds of academia, culture and politics from member states and countries cooperating with the organisation. Its key tasks include formulating recommendations on the strategic directions for the ENRS\u2019s development in the medium and long term, and representing the Network at national and international forums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Agata W\u0105sowska-Pawlik\u2019s nomination is a recognition of her achievements and a confirmation of the significant role played by the International Cultural Centre in Krak\u00f3w in the international debate on cultural heritage, historical memory and cultural cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The European Network for Remembrance and Solidarity is an international organisation promoting dialogue on the history of 20th-century Europe. It organises conferences, workshops, study visits, exhibitions and publications, creating a space for the exchange of knowledge and experiences. Its aim is to develop a European culture of remembrance and to build understanding between nations through the shared exploration and interpretation of history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisation is the initiator and partner of numerous projects related to the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Totalitarian Regimes, observed on 23 August \u2013 the anniversary of the signing of the Ribbentrop\u2013Molotov Pact. This day provides an opportunity to jointly commemorate the millions of victims of Nazism and Stalinism and to reflect on the consequences of totalitarianism for the history of Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Agata W\u0105swoska-Pawlik\u2019s nomination also has a special significance due to the cooperation between the International Cultural Centre and the ENRS. The institutions are united by their commitment to fostering dialogue on the history of 20th-century Europe and building a European culture of remembrance based on mutual understanding and cross-border cooperation. In recent years, the ICC has hosted representatives of the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity. During a study visit on 12 April 2024, we had the opportunity to present the activities of the International Cultural Centre to guests from the ENRS, as well as to learn more about the organisation\u2019s mission, objectives and programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The collaboration between the ICC and the ENRS also encompasses academic and educational events. One such event was the lecture \u201cModernism and the Persistence of Tradition\u201d, delivered on 24 March 2023 by Prof. Jay Winter \u2013 a distinguished American historian from Yale University, specialising in research on the First World War and its impact on 20th-century history. The event also tied in with the international exhibition \u201cAfter the Great War. A New Europe 1918\u20131923\u201d, organised by the ENRS in collaboration with a team of historians, including Prof. Winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
