The Warsaw Book Fair is organised by the History and Culture Foundation and Projekt Ksi\u0105\u017cka sp. z o.o. For the first time on this scale, the event will utilise the stadium space, creating a meeting place for readers, authors, publishers and cultural institutions from Poland and abroad. The programme features over 1,500 events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cImagined Capitals: Cities of the Habsburg Monarchy as Centres of Nations, 1815\u20131918\u201d<\/a> \u2013 a book by Dr \u0141ukasz Galusek, exploring the phenomenon of the \u201cimagined capital\u201d \u2013 the city as a form of national existence in the absence of a sovereign state. The author analyses the relationship between urban centres and the national community, demonstrating how a sense of distinctiveness and the pursuit of autonomy were shaped through architecture, culture and urban space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n *During the MCK\u2019s birthday week (25\u201331 May), the book is available exclusively at the ICC bookshop at Rynek G\u0142\u00f3wny 25 in Krak\u00f3w and at the International Book Fair in Warsaw at a promotional price of 50 z\u0142.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCarpathia\u201d<\/a> \u2013 Prof. Maciej Janowski describes a space where man and landscape form a community of fate. It is a narrative, written with literary attention and historical erudition, about a multinational area where different ethnic and religious groups have coexisted for centuries. The author considers, among other things, what characterises the category of \u201cmountainousness\u201d and recounts how the cultural and historical landscape of the Carpathians has changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cZ\u0142oto i srebro Zadaru\u201d by Miroslav Krle\u017ea<\/a> \u2013 a book by one of the most important writers of the 20th century, an intellectual and cultural critic from Zagreb. In this new publication, ICC looks at Dalmatian art as a mirror of history and human conscience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cArchipelagos: A Personal Atlas of Questions and Experiences\u201d by Drago Jan\u010dar<\/a> \u2013 the author takes the reader on a journey \u2013 not only between the islands of the Yugoslav \u201carchipelago\u201d, but also to the Bosphorus, the fields of Flanders and Trieste. It is also a journey through time, to places that can tell many stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBr\u00e2ncu\u0219i. Sculpting with Light\u201d<\/a> \u2013 this photobook is an attempt to enter the world of one of the most important artists of the 20th century \u2013 the Romanian sculptor Constantin Br\u00e2ncu\u0219i. The bilingual Polish-English publication opens with a text by Do\u00efna Lemna, curator of the exhibition at the ICC Gallery and an outstanding expert on the artist’s work. The catalogue also contains reproductions of 40 original photographs by Br\u00e2ncu\u0219i from prestigious private collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Herito, No. 59: Moravia<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 in this issue of the magazine, we explore Moravian identity, history, culture and architecture, taking readers from Ostrava, through Olomouc, to Brno and Znojmo. The issue includes, among other things, articles on the interwar avant-garde in Brno, the phenomenon of modernist Zl\u00edn, Ostrava\u2019s industrial heritage and the debates surrounding Moravian distinctiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Join us for\u00a0the launch event for the latest issue of \u201cHerito\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 on 8 June in Krak\u00f3w.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWhy is Romania Different?\u201d Lucian Boia<\/a> \u2013 the new edition of the book explores complex issues related to Romanian identity, myths and the nature of the country’s transformation and modernisation at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. This comprehensive study of Romanian history provides insight into the country’s paradoxical and difficult journey from one of the harshest communist dictatorships to a democratic member state of the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cPlants and animals. Atlases of natural history in the age of Linnaeus\u201d (second expanded edition)<\/a> \u2013 is a 240-page album presenting masterful illustrations from old natural history atlases \u2013 colourful, precise and full of detail.
