The authors of the best academic books on Eastern European topics were honoured. A special distinction from the quarterly \u201cEastern Review\u201d and the Aleksander Gieysztor Award were also presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Honours in 2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The winner of the \u201cEastern Review\u201d Special Award for his lifetime of research, work and academic output was Prof. Krzysztof Pietkiewicz. The recipient of the award is a professor emeritus at Adam Mickiewicz University in Pozna\u0144, having been associated with the Department of Eastern European History at the University\u2019s Institute of History for almost his entire professional career. His research interests include the history of Eastern Europe, with a particular focus on the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the history of Russia and the USSR, Russian culture, research into documents and the Cyrillic script and the history of the Ukrainian Cossacks. Professor Pietkiewicz is the author of numerous publications, including 12 books and textbooks, as well as several dozen articles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among those honoured by \u201cEastern Review\u201d were also: Dr Micha\u0142 Pszcz\u00f3\u0142kowski (category \u201cPolish Works\u201d), Prof. Vitalii Mykhailovskyi (category \u201cForeign Works\u201d), Adam Hlebowicz (category \u201cHistory of Poles in the East\u201d), Piotr Gursztyn and Alice Lugen (category: \u201cPopularisation of Eastern Issues\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Aleksander Gieysztor Award was also presented, honouring individuals and institutions that have made outstanding contributions to Eastern European affairs \u2013 in the fields of academic research, organisational work and the promotion of Poland abroad. This year\u2019s recipient was the Borys Voznytskyi Lviv National Art Gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the \u201cEastern Review\u201d Award<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This prestigious international award, presented since 1994 by the academic quarterly \u201cEastern Review\u201d, honours the authors of the best academic books on Eastern European topics. The award winners include scholars from various fields of study: history, law, political science and ethnology, from countries such as Belarus, France, Germany, Lithuania, Russia, Sweden, Ukraine and the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision to award the prizes was made by a jury comprising: Dorota Janiszewska-Jakubiak, Dr \u0141ukasz Kami\u0144ski, Robert Kostro, Prof. Jan Malicki, Prof. Wojciech Materski, Prof. Lech Mr\u00f3z, Prof. Ma\u0142gorzata Omilanowska-Kilja\u0144czyk, Prof. Andrzej Rachuba, ICC Director Agata W\u0105sowska-Pawlik and Prof. Leszek Zasztowt. Napisa\u0142 m.in. \u201eHistori\u0119 Austrii\u201d, \u201ePod ber\u0142em Habsburg\u00f3w\u201d, \u201eHistori\u0119 polityczn\u0105 Polski 1864\u20131918\u201d.
