The decision to prioritise the question of heritage\u2019s impact on contemporary society\u2014culturally, politically and economically\u2014was linked to an assessment of the current state of research in heritage studies. For some time now, the ties between society and heritage have been recognised as one of the most important aspects of the debate on the legacy of humankind, both tangible and intangible.<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"entry_text_lg wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:28px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"entry_text wp-block-paragraph\">Equally important for the conference organisers was the perspective proposed by Brian Graham, Gregory Ashworth and John Tunbridge, who argue that the category of heritage should be extended to encompass \u201calmost all forms of intergenerational exchange or relationships established both between communities and individuals\u2014whether desired or undesired\u201d. According to the authors of this concept, people themselves are the \u201ccreators of heritage\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"entry_text wp-block-paragraph\">In this context, several key questions were posed during the 4th Heritage Forum of Central Europe: What is the contemporary relationship between society and heritage, including its significant\u2014yet often difficult\u2014past? In what ways does heritage shape the communities in which we live? Who owns heritage, and why? What are its social functions? What do we choose to remember, and what do we often attempt to forget?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OPENING LECTURE: \u201cOpportunities and Responsibilities of Non-Governmental Organisations as Guardians of Cultural Heritage\u201d \u2013 Tam\u00e1s Fej\u00e9rdy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"entry_text wp-block-paragraph\">Over the course of the two-day Forum, papers were presented by 71 researchers from 20 countries\u2014Austria, Belarus, Croatia, Montenegro, Czechia, Greece, the Netherlands, Ireland, Malta, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Ukraine, Hungary, the United Kingdom and Italy. Drawing on three international research projects she has led, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lBELDanVBWk&amp;list=PLZt6KwflIjEP8K8fl4Yt-e9iUGMAicAM1&amp;index=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sharon Macdonald<\/a> presented emerging trends and new models of reflection on heritage, as well as mechanisms for engaging heritage consumers and users.
