"The Heritage of the Borderlands" - Polish-Japanese seminar

Every two years, the International Cultural Centre in Krakow together with Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and ICC Foudation organizes a semiar presenting the history and culture of Poland and Central Europe.

"The Heritage of the Borderlands" is the first program in Poland implemented in cooperation with the University of Tokyo. The seminar traditionally begins in Krakow where participants have the opportunity to learn about the history and cultural heritage of this city.

Cultural Heritage of the Visegrad Countries
Poland-Slovakia-Hungary, 28th August – 6th September 2014

During ten days the seminar visited the territory of Poland, Slovakia and Hungary – three from four Visegrad Countries. During the following days of the tour, participants visited, among others:

Poland: Wooden church of Dębno Podhalańskie, Niedzica Castle and Czorsztyn Lake
Slovakia: The historic centre of Kiežmark and Lutheran church (UNESCO Site), the historic centre of Levoča (UNESCO Site), Spišský Hrad and Spišská Kapitula, the cloister of Červený Kláštor, castle of Stará L’ubovňa, the historic centre of Prešov, the historic centre of Košice and St. Elisabeth Cathedral Church, church in Cecejovce, the Jasov Premonstratensian Abbey, the Andrassy Family Mausoleum in Krasna Horka, the Betliar Manor, the medieval churches in Kocelovce, Ochtina, Stitnik, the historic centre of Bardejov (UNESCO Site), the wooden church in Hervartov (UNESCO Site), the Andy Warhol Museum in Medzilaborce, the Andrassy Family Mausoleum in Trebišov and church in Vel’ká Třńa, the wooden churches in Svatuse, Klin nad Bodrogom, Mala Bara, Leles; Vine House Ostrozovic
Hungary: the historic centre of Eger, Budapest: the historic site of Buda Castle and historic center of Pest

The seminar participants had the opportunity to visit the historic Tokaj wine region, learn about its unique heritage and try local products in vineyards both in Slovakia and Hungary.

Cultural Heritage of Silesia
Poland – Czech Republic - Germany, 25^th August - 3^rd September 2016

During ten days the seminar visited of Silesia and focused on the heritage of this historical region, located mostly in Poland, with small parts in the Czech Republic and Germany. During the following days of the tour, participants visited, among others:

Poland: Bielsko-Biała, Pszyna Castle, Cieszyn, Katowice (centre of the city, Nikiszowiec), Zabrze, Gliwice, Wrocław (Ostrów Tumski, Museum of Wrocław, The Centennial Hall, Szczytnicki Park, WUWA, National Music Centre), Brzeg Castle, Opole, Moszna, Głogówek, Nysa, Paczków, Otmuchów, Kłodzko, Henryków, Świdnica (The Churches of Peace), Książ Castle, Wałbrzych, Krzeszów, Polanica-Zrój, Lubiąż, Legnica, Jelenia Góra, Karpacz
Polska / Niemcy: Zgorzelec/ Görlitz, Park Mużakowski/ Park von Muskau

Great Moravia: Czech and Slovak Borderland
Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, 22nd August - 31st August 2018

The semiar visited the region of Polish, Czech and Slovak Borderland and will focus on the heritage Great Moravia - the first major state that was predominantly West Slavic to emerge in the area of Central Europe. During the following days of the tour, participants visited, among others:

Żywiec (city centre and the castle), Istebna (Church and Sanatorium), Wisła Castle (territory of Poland);

Příbor (birthplace of Sigmund Freud), Nový Jičín, Hodslavice (Birthplace of František Palacký, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm (open air museum), Zilina, Kremnica, Banská Štiavnica, Banská Bystrica, Zvolen (city and the Castle), Svätý Anton, Bojnice, Trenčin (Castle), Nitra, Trnava, Bratislava (Slovakia Republic territory);

Lednice-Valtice, Vranov nad Dyjí, Znojno, Brno (city centre and castle), Jan Nepomuk Church and Cemetery in Žďár nad Sázavou, Olomouc (city centre and Museum of Fine Arts), Kroměřiž Palace and Gardens, Luhačovice, Zlin, Mohila Miru, Rajhrad Abbey, Alfons Mucha Museum in Ivančice, Mikulov Castle (Czech Republic).

Cultural Heritage of Pomerania and Masuria
19nd August – 28st August 2020

This year the semiar will visit the region of Pomerania and Masuria and will focus on the heritage of the Teutonic Orded, Hanseatic League and Prussia.
