Have we matured to look at the heritage of socialist realism? Which socialist realist realizations have stood the test of time? Magic socialist realism - a joke or a hypothesis? Łukasz Galusek, Anna Syska and Michał Wiśniewski were looking for answers to these questions during the first online meeting as part of the At a distance series inspired by the last issue of our quarterly "Herito".

Anna Syska
- researcher and promoter of architecture, deals with the cultural heritage of the Silesian Voivodeship, especially architecture of the 20th century. She is the author and editor of numerous articles and publications on pre-war and post-war architecture.

Łukasz Galusek - architect and publisher, from 2018 deputy director for programming at the International Cultural Centre in Krakow. He deals with the culture and art of Central Europe, especially the relations between space, memory and identity.

Michał Wiśniewski - architectural historian, graduate of the history of art and architecture. Works for the Cracow University of Economics and the International Cultural Centre. Fulbright scholarship holder. Author of many scientific and popularizing publications on the architecture of Kraków and Poland of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Meeting was held in Polish.

Only the distance allows you to change your perspective. We believe that thanks to our online activities, experiencing the social distance that separates us can be at the same time an opportunity to share stories about matters closest to us: Krakow, Central Europe, architecture and art. The Catch distance series is an invitation to meet and talk in the virtual world, to use our program, knowledge and to discover each other in a new reality.

From May 22, every two weeks, on the ICC Facebook profile, we will offer meetings with the authors and authors of our publications, co-creators of exhibitions or projects, and people who have been teaching us a careful look at history, heritage, culture and art for years. During the next events of the cycle we will talk, including with Krzysztof Czyżewski about the recently published volume of his essays' Towards Xenopolis' (ICC Publishing House 2019) or with Krzysztof Radoszek, author of the concept and curator of the exhibition Plants and animals. Atlases of natural history in the age of Linnaeus.

How to catch a distance to Krakow when you are based in its very center? From the windows of the Under the Ravens tenement house at 25 Main Square we have watched crowds of tourists admiring the charms of the first city inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Today the center of Krakow has become deserted.

New initiative of President Jacek Majchrowski Be a tourist in your city, its a great purpose to bring life back to the historic center, but also to get to know this part of the city that seemed only a tourist attraction for years.

Following this idea, we would like to invite you to listen to stories from the Krakow Market Square, and the series of podcasts we create will allow you to bring closer the history of tenements located in the center of Krakow, the lives of its former residents, trace the changes recorded in the priceless material heritage and show Krakow as an important city in Central Europe. What else will we learn about it when we look at its story from a distance?

Meeting was held in Polish.

The project is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and Sport.
