The Borderlands are the limit of our own world, but also a contact point of cultures and values, or a religious, linguistic and cultural mosaic. For some a lost territory, the Borderlands are, at the same time, land regained for others.

The Borderlands are the limit of our own world, but also a contact point of cultures and values, or a religious, linguistic and cultural mosaic. For some a lost territory, the Borderlands are, at the same time, land regained for others.
The Borderlands have, in fact, a universal dimension, while remaining an immanent part of the identity of Central Europe, where political borders have changed a lot faster than cultural borders.
Written by researchers from Poland and Hungary, as well as Belarus, Israel, Germany, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine and France, the essays published in this book are an attempt to look from many angles at the phenomenon of the Borderland, which are torn between a myth of a Paradise lost and a trauma of ethic purges, and to reflect on issues of cultural heritage preservation.
