“The Battle of Orsha” painting – an example of court propaganda or chivalric epic?
A lecture by Volodymyr Hucul

“The Battle of Orsha” from the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw is a premium example of panel paintings from the first half of the 16th century. It remains of great importance to scholars and researchers working in the field of history, military studies, as well as art history, and, in general, tangible culture. It is a testimony to various practices undertaken by political and military elites of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Grand Duchy of Moscow and the Kingdom of Poland. The importance of the relic is confirmed by the fierce and constantly re-opened debates on the painting itself.
