Lecture by Dr. Michał Wiśniewski within the program accompanying the exhibition Armenian Cathedral of Lviv and its creators.

Franciszek Mączyński – was one of the most important figures of the Kraków architectural community in the early 20th century. In 1898, just 24 years old, he won the competition for the design of the Palace of Arts. The creation of this new building on Szczepański Square opened the way for a brilliant career, developed for many years through his cooperation with Tadeusz Stryjeński, the doyen of Kraków’s architecture. Their joint works include designing the reconstruction of the Old Theatre, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce building, and in the interwar period of the so‑called „Polish Bazaar” building, later housing the Palace of the Press. In 1909–1910, Mączyński prepared the design for the reconstruction of the Armenian Cathedral in Lviv.

The meeting focused on the works of Franciszek Mączyński recalled his most important achievements, prepared both individually and jointly with Tadeusz Stryjeński, and presented his place in the artistic life of Kraków in the early 20th century. The figure and work of Mączyński also served as a key to showing the changes taking place in the Kraków urban space of the period.
