Figuration vs Abstraction
A lecture by Prof. dr hab. Maria Hussakowska

The most recognisable and best-known works by Andy Warhol are figurative as they show figures or objects. However, in the later phase of his artistic career, Warhol turned towards abstraction and abstract patterns. His works featured at the ICC Gallery illustrate both tendencies present in his oeuvre.

Maria Hussakowska-Szyszko – an art historian and art critic. Her research interests include: contemporary museology, curatorship, history of modern and contemporary art, American art. Since 1971 she has been employed at the Modern Art Research Unit at the Institute of Art History, Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Her numerous publications include: Spadkobiercy Duchampa? Negacja sztuki w amerykańskim środowisku artystycznym [Duchamp’s inheritors? Negation of art in the American artistic milieu] as well as Minimalizm w sztukach wizualnych [Minimalism in visual art]. She is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA); since 2009 she is a member of the executive board of the Polish branch of the AICA.
